Lady Owls Late Struggles Lead to Defeat Against No. 7 Onondaga

Prince George's women's basketball returned to Novak Field House for the first time in the new year on Sunday afternoon, January 5^th to face NJCAA's Division III seventh ranked Onondaga Community College. Despite playing without their top scorer, the Owls were able to take control throughout the game but the Blazers would eventually pull away late, escaping with an 88-82 win. The loss dropped the Owls to 8-6 overall while the Lazers improved to 12-3.

Leading 26-24 after the first quarter, the Owls lost the lead in the second quarter to head into halftime trailing 49-45. Freshman guard Trinity Workman who has been a scoring machine for the Owls this season stepped up in a big way with the absence of sophomore Tatiana Garvin who had been the Owls top scorer. Workman put up sixteen points in the first half to go along with five assists.

Prince George's put together a 7-0 run to open the third quarter on their way to reclaiming a 52-49 lead. The Blazers would respond over the next 6 minutes and 38 seconds of the third quarter to regain control 67-66 entering the final quarter. The Owls would later go up 73-69 after freshman Dajine'e Gatling connected on a made layup with 7:50 remaining in the contest. Onondaga again responded over the next several minutes to tie the score at 76 with 4:29 left before exploding for an 8-0 run to put the game away with 1:54 remaining. The Blazers would close out the game with an 88-82 victory.

Owls Freshman Kori People would finish as the game's leading scorer with 22 points while Workman and Gatling each added 16 points each for Prince George's. Gatling also added 15 rebounds to record her third double-double of the 2019-2020 season. The Owls have another extended break to work on their execution before returning to action against Baltimore City Community College on Wednesday, January 15^th in a Maryland JUCO contest.
