8th-Ranked Howard Downs Women's Soccer

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College women's soccer team hosted its #playwithpride game Friday evening, facing the 8th-ranked Howard Community College Dragons. Alyssa Begunich scored for AACC in a 7-1 loss.

Midfielder Madalyn Nichols, who was named the NJCAA national player of the week last week, scored four goals for Howard. Kylie Toler added a pair, and Kayla Hatmaker chipped in with one as the Dragons ran their win streak to six.

Howard held a 2-0 lead at halftime on unassisted goals from Nichols and Toler before Nichols put in a pair in just over a minute at the start of the second. Begunich cut the Dragons' lead to three with her unassisted tally in the 54th minute, but Nichols answered back three minutes later. Hatmaker and Toler capped the scoring in the 62nd and 78th minutes.

The 8th-ranked Dragons (6-1-1) outshot AACC, 21-3. Riverhawks keeper Sarah Ward made nine saves in the game, posting eight in the second half.

Both teams showed their support for the United Soccer Coaches' "Play With Pride Week." AACC donned rainbow laces and bracelets to show support for LGBTQ+ players, coaches, support staff, referees, and fans, as well as to send the message that every person on every team is valued and respected.
