ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College softball team hosted Chesapeake College Thursday afternoon in an MDJUCO doubleheader. The Skipjacks won the first game, 10-6, and led the second game, 18-12, with two outs in bottom of the fifth before the game was called due to darkness.

Chesapeake (8-7, 8-5) scored five runs in the third inning and added another in the top of the fourth before Anne Arundel (12-18, 6-8) got three back in the bottom of the sixth. The Skipjacks added four in the seventh, and the Riverhawks scored three runs in the bottom of the inning and left the bases loaded after two pop ups.

Katie Rosati led AACC with a 4-for-4 effort at the plate, scoring one run and driving in two with a double, her ninth of the season. Overall the Riverhawks cranked out 11 hits in the first game. Veronica Hampton scattered nine hits in a complete game on the mound.

Kyleigh McQuade hand Katie Rosati each hit home runs in the nightcap as AACC pounded out 15 hits in the game. Chesapeake led 7-1 after two and added six more runs in the fourth before the AACC bats put up 5 in the bottom of the inning, including on a McQuade grand slam. In the top of the fifth, Chesapeake tacked on five, setting up the Riverhawks' comeback in the bottom of the inning.

Allison Jacoby led off the innings with a single to center, and came around to score on Rosati's fifth home run of the season. This chased out Chesapeake starting pitcher, Mauri Viness (two strikeouts, 11 hits, 9 runs). Alexis Brengle earned a walk and came around on McQuade's team-leading sixth home run of the season. Sylvia Frye then singled and came around to third as Carly Gernert singled to right. Gernert then stole second, setting up the Riverhawks with runners in scoring position.

Alexis Silva drove in Frye and reached on a fielder's choice as Gernert was out at third. Then Randi Graham singled to center to advance Silva to second before the game was called with two on and two out.

Overall, Rosati finished the second game going 4-for-4 with three RBI and McQuade drove in six runs on a 2-for-4 effort. Pitching duties were split between Jacoby, Silva, and Hampton. The trip allowed 16 hits through five innings.

A completion date for the second game has not yet been established. AACC travels to Northern Virginia Community College Saturday for a 10 am doubleheader.
