Women's Soccer Earns No. 2 Seed In Region XX Tournament

ARNOLD, MD – The Anne Arundel Community College women's soccer team has earned the No. 2 seed in the Region XX and Mid Atlantic District Division III Women's Soccer Tournament, it was announced late Wednesday. The Riverhawks will host No. 3 seed Oxford College of Emory University in the semifinals on Friday, November 1, at 12 pm.

The winner of Friday's semifinal game will face top seed Howard in the championship game at AACC on Saturday, November 2, at 11 am.

Howard earned the top seed in the region tournament with a 1-0 in-region divisional record, and a 10-3-1 overall record. AACC earned the second seed with an 0-1 in-region divisional record and a 7-6 overall record. Oxford Emory, a member of Region 17, comes in with an overall record of 6-4. AACC lost its in-region divisional game to 8th-ranked Howard, 7-1, on September 20th in Arnold.

AACC is averaging 3.77 goals per game on the year led by sophomore Aileen Rivera Cubero, who has eight goals and an assist. She recorded a trio of two-goal games this season. Freshman Alyssa Begunich has had an impressive rookie campaign with seven goals and four assists, including the lone strike against Howard in the teams' regular season meeting. A pair of freshman defenders have also shown offensive prowess in Erika Jackson  -- 6 goals, 7 assists-- and Morgan Argubright  --6 goals, 6 assists.

In goal, freshman Sarah Ward has started 12 games for AACC with a .676 save percentage to go with a 3.00 GAA. She comes into the tournament with a 7-6 record, including a pair of shutouts.

The Riverhawks advance to the Region XX semifinals for the fourth year in a row. They fell to Howard, 1-0, in last year's semifinals. In 2017 in their only meeting, AACC defeated Oxford Emory in the semifinals, 2-1, before falling to Montgomery College in the title game.
