CSM Takes Down Undefeated Hagerstown

The College of Southern Maryland Hawks women's soccer team took down the undefeated Hagerstown Community College Hawks on September 14 by a score of 4-3.

CSM struck first in the 35th minute thanks to sophomore midfielder/defender Madelyn Minichino's first goal of the season. A pass from freshman forward Megan Hinton sent freshman midfielder/defender Zoi Whitsett to the end line where she was barely able to get her cross off toward the goal before going out of bounds. Whitsett's cross got past the Hagerstown goalie to Minichino at the other side of the goal who ensured the ball found its way into the net.

Freshman forward Alexis Corcoran added CSM's second goal in the 37th minute. Freshman defender Cali Barber sent a cross from the right side into the penalty box where a waiting Corcoran took her shot into the lower left corner of the net and collected her second goal of the season.

Hagerstown snuck in their first goal in the last two seconds of the first half, then scored again six minutes into the second half to tie the score at 2-2.

Barber gave CSM the lead back with an unassisted goal in the 64th minute to make it 3-2.

Hagerstown tied the score back at 3-3 in the 70th minute.

The game-winning goal for CSM came in the 80th minute. Minchino advanced the ball from midfield through Hagerstown defenders before sending a pass to the right side for Hinton, who wouldn't be denied as she continued her way into the box before cutting her shot into the goal for her eighth of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Cox made eight saves on the day.

This was Hagerstown's first loss of the year after starting the season 6-0. CSM improved to 4-2-1 overall, and 3-1-1 in Region 20 Division II.
