Cougars Women's Soccer Secured 6-0 Victory Over WAU Shock
The Frederick CC Cougars women's soccer team secured their first win of the season with a 6-0 victory over Washington Adventist University Shock.
In the 22nd minute of the game, Frederick Sophomore Emily Mohler opened the scoring with a skillful angled shot that avoided the Shock's goalkeeper to take the lead. Mohler was a driving force for the Cougars, tallying six shots, three of which were on target. Just before halftime, Cougars freshman Francesca Vacchelli found the back of the net in the 29th minute, marking her first goal of the season and extending the Cougars' lead to 2-0 as they headed into the break.
The Shock inadvertently contributed to the score line by conceding an own-goal five minutes into the second half, making it 3-0 in favor of the Cougars. The Cougars' offense continued to shine in the second half, led by team captain Sam Gregorio, who not only provided the assist for Mohler's opening goal but also netted two goals of her own in the 66th and 87th minutes. Gregorio was locked in, registering five shots during the match, with four of them finding the target. Ella Henderson added to the offensive push with her own goal in the 72nd minute, capping off an impressive display with four shots, all on target.
Lifted by this victory, the team is now preparing for a busy schedule featuring four games in a seven-day span. They kick off with an away game against WVU Potomac State College on Thursday, September 14, followed by a home contest against Camden County Community College, a Region 19 opponent, on Saturday, September 16 at 2:00 PM. On Tuesday, September 19, they'll host Anne Arundel Community College at 2:00 PM. The Cougars will then hit the road again, traveling down Interstate 270 to take on Montgomery College, a Region 20 Division I opponent, on Thursday, September 21 at 4:30 PM.
