CATONSVILLE SOFTBALL SWEEPS DOUBLEHEADER FROM FREDERICK AND HONORS FIRST RESPONDER

On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, Catonsville swept a doubleheader from visiting Frederick by scores of 5-2 and 14-5. The Lady Cardinals are now 19-10 overall and 10-4 in Conference.

In game 1, Kayleigh Rishel improved her record to 13-6, allowing only five hits and two runs. She walked only one and struck out eight. She mixed speeds on her pitches throughout the game.

Offensively, Rachel Cox had a double and triple to right center field. She scored two runs and drove in two. Brianna Twigg had a single and a double and scored two runs. Sarah Devilbiss had a homerun and 2 RBIs.

In game 2, Catonsville fell behind 3-0 in the middle of the first and 5-1 in the middle of the second. They erupted for eight runs in the home half of the second (sending 11 to the plate and registering six hits) and five more in the third. Ellora Edquist capped the scoring in the second with a monster three-run homer.

Sarah Devilbiss and Katie Weaver also homered. Devilbiss had two hits and four RBIs. Weaver had two hits and three RBIs.

Before the doubleheader, Catonsville Softball honored Deputy Chief Carl Knight of the Baltimore City Fire Department as a Hometown Hero. He was a first responder at the March 26, 2024 Key Bridge collapse. Mr. Knight also umpired the doubleheader.

The Cardinals close their regular season home schedule with a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at 3 p.m. versus Monroe College.
