Women's Basketball Defeats Cecil College

Catonsville, MD- The lady cardinals make their comeback with a 72- 56 victory over Cecil community college.  The cardinals hold on in the first quarter only falling behind by one point (21-20).  The first player to re-energize the cardinals was Heilah Ortiz who knocked down a confident three pointer, putting the cardinals ahead in the first few minutes of the second quarter.  Akirra Pullen, encouraged by this performance, starts to knock down plenty of shots springing the Cardinals into their first significant lead that they held against Cecil.   The strong performance from the lady Cardinals after the first quarter left no doubt that they would come out on top in their 16 point victory.

A star freshman, Cache Waters, lead the Cardinals in scoring with 21 points for the night, spearheading the offense.  Not falling far behind is our very own sophomore, Akirra Pullen putting up 16 points.  She didn't stop there though, working for 9 offensive rebounds and 8 defensive rebounds, showing the importance of defense and heart during the game.  To finish the game out, sophomore Tylea Galloway was called to action where she got her impressive triple double consisting of 14 points, 17 rebounds, and 13 assist.  These ladies were playmakers that allowed the cardinals to break out of the slump that Cecil had put them in following the first quarter.  Defensive dominance was on the minds of the lady Cardinals, keeping Cecil to only 5 points in the second quarter and putting up 18 points of their own.  The two teams would stay even following the first half into the second allowing the cardinals to hold their lead.

After defeating Cecil, the cardinals now have two back to back wins In their back pocket giving them confidence.  This win puts the ladies at a 7-4 record in the conference, well above their goal of staying .500 this season.  With the region tournament looming ahead, the momentum two confident wins gives is incomparable. They will show as a warning to their next two opponents, Harford Community College on Monday February 24th at 5p.m and Northern Virginia Community College on Wednesday February 26th at 12p.m.
