Volleyball Splits Tri-Match with Westmoreland, Butler

BUTLER, PA – The Anne Arundel Community College volleyball team split a tri-match Saturday at Butler County Community College, defeating Westmoreland in straight sets before falling to the host Pioneers, 3-1, in the afternoon.

In the morning's game, AACC cruised past the Wolfpack in three sets, 25-7, 25-6, and 25-14. Karen Bautista-Carmona led the attack with eight kills, while Alle Forbes added five. Tara Gabrielsen recorded six aces, while Grace Lindemann had 17 assists and a pair of aces.

The Riverhawks came out on fire against defending region champion Butler in the afternoon, edging the Pioneers 25-23 in the first set before dropping the rest, 25-19, 25-17, and 25-15. The set AACC earned against BC3 marked just the third in Region XX divisional play that the Pioneers have lost.

Bautista-Carmona recorded a career-high 15 kills, and Taliyah Johnson also recorded a career-high with eight kills and set another career high with four blocks. Gabrielsen recorded 21 digs to go with an ace, while Sylvia Frye added 24 digs. Lindemann had 22 assists on the afternoon.

AACC (7-5) hosts Garrett College on Friday, October 4th in a 6 pm match in Jenkins Gym.
