Erie Community College baseball headed to Maryland for the final leg of its season opening southern road trip hoping to build on the their final win in Florida. After going 2-4 over the three days, the Kats will head home 5-10 overall.
On Friday, a walk-off left Erie on the wrong end of a 9-8 defeat to Catonsville in the opening game. The game was tied at eight with Catonsville batting in the bottom of the ninth when when the Cardinals were able to plate the winning run. Connor Desiderio was on the mound for Erie. The pitcher went five innings, allowing five runs on eight hits and striking out five. Ethan Stevens, Sam Calcaterra, and Tyler Oudette each contributed in relief. Colby Wilson went deep in the sixth inning for the Kats only homer of the game.
Despite once again out hitting Cantonsville in the second game of the day, Erie lost the lead late in a 14-6 defeat. Catonsville trailed 6-5 in the bottom of the sixth inning when an error scored two runs for Catonsville. Ryan Lynch was on the pitcher's mound and the hurler went five innings, allowing five runs on five hits and striking out five. Moritz Joedicke and Tyson Kovats entered the game as relief, throwing two-thirds of an inning and one-third of an inning respectively.
On Saturday, the Kats watched game one slip away early and couldn't recover in a 12-2 loss to Dundalk. The Lions took the lead on a home run in the first inning and never looked back. Spencer Hartford led things off on the mound for the Kats. The hurler lasted five innings, allowing eight hits and seven runs while striking out four. Aaron Cabrera threw one-third of an inning out of the bullpen.
The tides turned in game two as Erie cruised their own 12-2 victory. Dundalk opened the scoring the bottom of the first but the Kats pulled away for good with three runs in the third inning. Colby Wilson singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, Nathan Kinder's sac fly scored one run for Erie and Grayson Giddings drew a walk, scoring one run. Ryan Moran was on the hill and surrendered two runs on six hits over five and two-thirds innings, striking out one and walking one.
Dylan Moorhouse had all the right stuff on the mound in Erie's first game on Sunday as the Kats defeated the Essex Knights 13-0. The fireballer allowed three hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out ten and walking one. The Kats secured the victory thanks to eight runs in the sixth inning. Garett Wilson, Nathan Kinder, Grayson Giddings, Tyson Kovats, and Andrew Nantau each drove in runs during the inning.
The Kats kept the momentum going to start game two, jumping out to a 7-0 lead by the end of the second inning. That was all the offense Erie could muster and the Knights completed their comeback in walk-off fashion, winning 8-7 in the botton of the seventh inning. Sam Calcaterra was on the hill for Erie. The hurler surrendered five runs on ten hits over five and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking zero. Ethan Stevens threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Erie returns to New York but will have two more road games beginning with a pair of games on Thursday at Monroe Community College and two on Saturday at Genesee Community College before they will play at home on March 26th.
