The Prince George's Community College women's basketball team traveled to Arnold, MD on Saturday, December 14th to take on Anne Arundel Community College for a Maryland JUCO clash. In a back and forth battle, the Owls were able to come out on top to secure a 75-63 victory. With their third straight win the Owls improve to 7-4, including 2-3 in MD JUCO play while Anne Arundel falls to 7-5, 0-4.
The dangerous trio of Trinity Workman, Kori People, and Tatiana Garvin combined for 59 of the Owls 75 total points in the victory. Workman and People both had 20 points while Garvin poured in 19 points to go along with 11 rebounds in route to recording her seventh double-double of the season.
Prince George's came out quick, building a 14-2 lead over the first three and a half minutes before the Riverhawks turned things around and cut into the Owls lead. The Owls began the second period with a 22-18 lead and continued to hold Anne Arundel in check to grow their lead and enter halftime in control, 34-25.
Leading 45-30 with 6 minutes to play in the third period, the Owls were in good shape until the Riverhawks pieced together a 19-4 run over the final minutes of the period to steal the lead from Prince George's. The Riverhawks took their first lead of the game with 1 second remaining in the period after a made free throw brought the score to 49-48. Anne Arundel would again hit on a free throw shortly into the final period of play to grow their lead to 2, their largest of the matchup before the Owls went on a run. The Owls exploded for a 19-0 stretch over the next 5 plus minutes before the Riverhawks finally stopped the bleeding with a pair of free throws but the damage had already been done with the Owls now leading 67-52 with under 5 minutes remaining. The Riverhawks would keep pace with Prince George's for the remainder of the contest but the Owls late push put the game out of reach as they earned their third consecutive victory by a final score of 75-63. Up next for the Owls is a home game against conference opponent Harford Community College on Wednesday evening, December 18th. Tipoff is scheduled for 5 pm.
