Knights Dominate Riverhawks 118-27 in One-Sided Victory

The CCBC Essex Knights Women's Basketball team's offensive onslaught continues as they tied their season high of 118 points in a dominating 118-27 victory over Anne Arundel Community College, pushing their record to an impressive 25-1. Six Knights were able to score in double figures. Gissel "Gigi" Gamble nearly outscored the Riverhawks by herself, as she scored 25 points. She shot 66% from the field and knocked down five of her seven three-point attempts. Cierra McGinlay scored 19, and Reghan Robinson scored 16.

The Knights Big's feasted, as Adela Cecunjanin and Astou Diongue both finished with a double-double. Cecunjanin had 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Diongue had 11 points and 15 rebounds.

The first quarter saw the Knights hit the ground running on both ends of the court. Gamble and McGinlay found their spots early and quickly scored nine and eight points. The team followed suit, and as a unit they were able to knock down 51.7% of their shots, while also wreaking havoc defensively. The Knights recorded 8 steals in the quarter and held the Riverhawks to a mere six points on 3-17 shooting. This allowed them to ride to a 30-point lead after one.

The second quarter saw the Knights pick up where they left off. Cecunjanin scored 12 without missing a shot. Gamble added another 10 of her own. The Knightd defense remained unrelenting, as they soon found themselves up 72-20 at half.

The second half saw the Knights continue to score seemingly at will, as Robinson scored eight of her points in the third quarter. The defense of the Knights remained smothering, as in the second half they held the Riverhawks to 7 points on 3-34 shooting. The efforts on both sides of the court allowed the Knights to cruise to a 118-27 win.

The Knights were able to pull down 67 total rebounds (24 offensive 43 defensive), which was a huge factor in this game. "Getting rebounds is going to help us a lot in the post season," said Adela Cecunjanin. "Getting those extra possessions is really going to help keep those games alive". As one of the best rebounding teams in the country, the Knights understand how important rebounds are for their playoff aspirations.

The squad is set to hit the road for a game against Frederick Community College tomorrow night. The tip off is set for 5PM.
