Game Notes

The Riverhawks dropped to NJCAA DI MD JUCO conference leader Raptors, 7-2, this past Tuesday evening (10/16).  Playing at home, the Riverhawks jumped out with an early lead and battled to keep it close during the first half, but Montgomery would go on quite a run in the second half to earn the victory.

With high expectations for the visiting Raptors, the Riverhawks pushed hard to claim the early lead. Set up by a Raptor foul, Reyna Bocanegra (Severn, MD/North County) would fire a shot from just outside the box, nailing the crossbar. Quick to react, Ashley Sherwin (Odenton, MD/Arundel) would handle the rebound and find the back of the net just three minutes in. Over the next 15 minutes Montgomery would respond hard with two unanswered goals to take the 2-1 lead. As the Riverhawks continued to stay aggressive, Madeline Stevenson (Severn, MD/Archbishop Spalding) would handle to the ball and muscle her way past a Raptor defender and goalkeeper to finish on ne. Each team would fail to score again and head into halftime intermission tied, 2-2.

The second half was an unfortunate turn of events for the Riverhawks, as the Raptors quickly pulled away. The powerhouse offense of Montgomery would outshoot AACC, 13-5 (25-9 total), and score 5 unanswered goals in the second half. With possesions just not working in AACC's favor, the Raptors would earn the 7-2 victory. AACC goalkeeper Hannah Lieb (Annapolis, MD) would finish with 8 saves on the night.
