Cardinals Fall in Game One to Surry

On February 27th, the CCBC Cardinals softball team would fall to two & three, as they lost an intense uphill battle versus the Surry Community College Knights.

The Knights would pressure the Cardinals strong with a three-run lead, at the bottom of the first inning. Their pitcher, Abbigail Draughn would prove to be a tough obstacle to overcome as she finished the game with 12 strikeouts and a win. Yet through some uncertainty, Freshman third baseman Tori Bache (Northeast High School) kept this game alive with an RBI and a much-needed homerun. On the other side of the field, freshman pitcher Kayleigh Rishel (Leonardtown High School) would help stagnate the Knight's scoring in all but the fifth inning. Two strikeouts and hitting a late–game double surely helped but simply wasn't enough to overcome the issue of scoring and sustaining their batting possessions.

This young team seems to just be missing the chemistry needed to run on all cylinders, which simply enough, should work itself out. In previous games, the Cardinals created a trend of forcing games to be high scoring on both sides. Interestingly enough, the Cardinals had seemingly addressed this by allowing the Knights to score the lowest runs against them this season. But just couldn't fully take advantage of this positive, as they ended this game with the second-lowest-scoring performance this season so far. As we approach deeper within the season.  and a notable drop-off. Now the Lady Cardinals look to move forwards and bounce back in a major way, as this was game one of a doubleheader matchup.
