Kelly Scores Season's First Goal in Loss to Potomac State

Sophomore midfielder Ashley Kelly scored Cecil College women's soccer's first goal of the season in Saturday's loss to the Catamounts of Potomac State College of WVU. The Seahawks fall to 0-5 overall and 0-5 in the conference with four contests remaining in the season.

Despite the Seahawks taking their season high in shots, with their highest percentage on goal, the Catamounts were able to outscore Cecil College 4-1 with their first goal coming five minutes into action. The Seahawks and Catamounts were then scoreless for the remainder of the half.

The Seahawks came out strong in the second half with Ashley Kelly tieing the game up at 1-1 with an unassisted goal. Her goal was the third of her career, after scoring two goals during her freshman campaign. The Catamounts answered seven minutes later to re-gain the lead and scored an additional two unanswered goals to hand Cecil College their fifth loss.

Freshman goal keeper Julianne Thompson grabbed 10 saves, making it her fifth consecutive start with double-digit saves. Ashley Kelly fired off 10 shots for Cecil, six of which landed on target, followed by Megan O'Neal with four shots and Sydney Wiggins with one.

Cecil College women's soccer returns to action at their home venue, Calvert Regional Park, on Friday, October 4 to face off against the Cardinals of CCBC Catonsville. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
