Frederick Baseball, WVU Potomac State Softball Earn Preseason Rankings

CHARLOTTE, Nc. – The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has released the preseason polls for baseball and softball with two Region 20 programs earning recognition in the top 20.

The Frederick Community College baseball program earned the 19th spot in the Division II Baseball Preseason Poll after earning a trip to the World Series last spring. The Cougars finished the 2023 season with a 38-15 record and their fourth consecutive Region 20, Division II Baseball title. Frederick opened the 2024 season with three wins over Bryant & Stratton College in a four-game series.  The Cougars are looking to earn their 10th World Series appearance and ninth Region 20 Championship under Coach Rodney Bennett.

In Division II Softball, WVU Potomac State ranked 19th in the preseason poll. The Catamounts ended the 2023 season with the same ranking after putting together a 43-5 record, Region 20 Championship, and World Series appearance. WVU Potomac State enjoyed a 31-game win streak in a span of winning 41 out of 42 contests leading up to the tournament. The Catamounts have been to consecutive Division II World Series thanks to back-to-back Region 20 titles. This season they are off to a 3-1 start after decisive victories over Herkimer College, Corning Community College, and Lackawanna College.
