Region 20 Announces January Players of the Month

Congratulations to the NJCAA Region 20 Players of the Month for excellence in January, 2024. The Region recognized seven student-athletes from five member institutions. 

Men's Basketball Division I
Lamont Jones, R-So., Guard, Allegany
Jones scored in double digits in every game in January, shooting 52.7% from the floor while averaging 15 points per game to help the Trojans to a 5-2 record. From beyond the arc, Jones fired at a 40% clip, while sinking 72.2% of his free throws. He averaged three rebounds, 1.3 steals, and an assist per game. Jones scored a season-high 30 points against Potomac State.

Men's Basketball Division II
Hussain Williams, Fr., Guard, CCBC Dundalk
Williams joined Dundalk after winter break and led the Lions to a 6-2 record in January. He averaged 22 points and 7.9 rebounds per game, shooting 50% from the floor and 45% from three-point range. He also dished the ball an average of 3.4 times per game. Williams had double-doubles in wins over Howard and the College of Southern Maryland, and posted a triple-double (30 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists) at Westmoreland. In eight games, Williams scored at least 20 points six times.

Men's Basketball Division III
Justin Minor, So., Forward, Prince George's
Minor averaged a double-double during January while starting in each of the Owls seven games, finishing with 10.7 points and 12.9 rebounds per game. Minor matched his personal best 18 points on January 17th against College of Southern Maryland to go along with a new high of 19 rebounds. He scored in double digits in five of seven games with four double-doubles during the month.

Women's Basketball Division I
Zahriah Bumbrey, Fr., Guard, Allegany
Bumbrey started all eight games in January for the Trojans, twice recording 40 minutes on the court, and playing all 45 minutes in an overtime loss to Potomac State. Against the Catamounts, she scored a career-high 23 points, pulled down seven rebounds and went 3-for-4 at the free throw line. Bumbrey had three games with five or more steals, grabbing six against Garrett to close out the month. 

Women's Basketball Division II
Chelcie Forrester, So., Forward, Potomac State
Forrester averaged 21.8 points and 13.2 rebounds per game in January, shooting 54.4% from the floor and 83.3% from the free throw line. She was named the NJCAA DII Player of the Week after scoring 43 points to go with 12 rebounds in an overtime win against Allegany. Forrester closed out the month with 23 points, 23 rebounds, and eight assists against Harford. In five games in January, Forrester recorded a double-double in four of them.

Women's Basketball Division III
Amari Jones, Fr., Guard, Prince George's
Jones started in all four games for the Owls during January while averaging 17.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and two steals per game while helping Prince George's remain in the top-10 of the NJCAA DIII Rankings. Jones scored a career-high 31 points on January 17th at the College of Southern Maryland where the Owls defeated the Hawks, 59-52. Jones shot 50% from the field and 43% from range in the victory.

Women's Bowling
Grace Fischer, Fr., Westmoreland
In the month of January Fischer averaged 145 pins over the three matches, recording a team-high 201 game on the 26th at Coral Lanes on her way to a second-place overall finish. Just four days later at Penn Highlands, Fischer bowled a 411 series to finish in first place.
