Region 20 Names March Players of the Month

Congratulations to the NJCAA Region 20 Players of the Month for outstanding performances in March, 2023. Eight student-athletes from five member institutions were honored this month.

Baseball Division I
Alexander Meckley, Potomac State
Meckley went 1-1 in four appearances on the mound in March. He struck out 32 batters in 19 innings with a 1.89 ERA. Meckley struck out 12 and allowed one hit in a five inning start at then No. 2 Walters State on March 16. He fanned eight against Garrett five days later and five at Allegany March 29th.

Baseball Division II
Jonathan McMath, Montgomery College
McMath went 21-48 at the plate in 17 games for the Raptors in March. Of the outfielder's 21 hits in the month, 14 were for extra bases, including eight home runs. McMath drove in 28 runs and scored 19 himself while recording five multiple-hit games.

Baseball Division III
Hector Vargas, Prince George's Community College
Vargas had a near perfect month fielding for Prince George's, tallying 23 putouts for the Owls. He also had his best performance from the plate on March 14th during a 16-2 victory over Southern Maryland where he finished 4-for-5 with two home runs.

Softball Division I

Softball Division II
Abby Peace, Potomac State
Peace went 8-0 in the circle with seven complete games and four shutouts, also picking up a save in March. She allowed 15 runs and totaled 92 strikeouts in 46.2 innings, averaging 13.80 strikeouts per seven innings as Potomac State went 16-0 in the month. At the plate Peace was equally as impressive going 22 for 57 (.386) with 23 RBI and seven extra-base hits including five home runs.

Softball Division III

Men's Lacrosse
Zane Dalpe, Howard Community College
Dalpe played in five games, scoring an NJCAA-best 25 goals with 9 nine assists in March. He also recorded 13 ground balls and seven caused turnovers for the month. Dalpe was named the NJCAA Player of the Week on March 22 after scoring 12 goals with six assists in a pair of games. Earlier in the month he scored seven goals in the Dragons' dramatic comeback win over then No. 5 Genesee.

Women's Lacrosse
Savanna Reitz, Anne Arundel Community College
Reitz stepped in as draw specialist for the Riverhawks in March, as AACC went 3-0 and catapulted to the top spot in the national rankings. AACC won 54% of the draws in March, including a season-high 19 at NCAA DIII Keystone on March 25. Reitz scored 13 goals and added three assists in three games, totaling six points twice. Reitz also collected 15 draw controls, caused seven turnovers, and picked up seven groundballs.

Men's Track & Field
Rashid Blackmon, Prince George's Community College
In the first meet of the year for Prince George's, Rashid Blackmon qualified for nationals in three events at the Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational at the University of Lynchburg. He competed in the ran the 400m hurdles in 1:01:35. He clocked an 11.46 in the 100m and also contributed to strong legs on the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

Women's Track & Field
Blessing Nwoke, Prince George's Community College
Blessing set new personal bests in multiple events at the Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational at Lynchburg University. In a meet with over 30 programs in attendance she finished among the top 25.
