Wolfpack Roll to 103-70 Victory over Penn Highlands

YOUNGWOOD, Pa. - Jake Zasowski came off the bench to score 18 points and lead six scorers in double figures, as the Westmoreland County Community College men's basketball team rolled to a 103-70 victory over Penn Highlands Sunday afternoon.

As they did in Friday's 98-88 win at Penn Highlands, the Wolfpack (3-5) built a solid lead in the opening half. Jakir Hampton hit for 11 and Zasowski fired in eight to propel the home team to a 41-29 lead at the break.

In the second half of Friday's game on the road, Penn Highlands used a full-court press to create turnovers and cut into the Westmoreland lead until the Wolfpack put the game away in the final two minutes. That did not happen in Sunday's tilt, as Westmoreland fended off a couple mini-runs by the Black Bears early in the half and then rolled late. Dunks by Tahiyr Vines and Brandan Baird were exclamation points on the largest Wolfpack victory since a 102-66 decision over Pitt-Titusville in Jan., 2017.

In posting his team-high 18 points, Zasowski was 7-for-9 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the arc. Hampton, who also made five steals, and Vines, who grabbed eight rebounds, both scored 16 each. Other double digit scorers included Jason Pierre with 13, Baird, who had a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards, and Noah Raynor-Savage with 10 markers.

The Wolfpack will take their two-game winning streak into a tough match-up on March 19th when they host NJCAA I foe Allegany (Md.) College in a 6 pm tip-off.
