Cecil Drops Home Opener with Delaware Tech

NORTH EAST, Md. - Delaware Tech edged Cecil baseball in its home opener Sunday, as the Seahawks fell 4-3 in extra innings.

The visitors took a 3-0 to begin the game, scoring one run in each of the first three innings. Cecil's offense was limited to just two hits through the fifth.

Cecil mounted its comeback in the bottom sixth, taking advantage of back-to-back walks and wild pitches. This planted Patrick O'Brien and Dylan Byler on first and third with no outs. Nate Ewing drove home O'Brien on a sac fly for Cecil's first run of the game. A stolen base and balk pushed pinch runner Gio Malatesta to third base, allowing Garrett Worthington to drive him in via another sac fly. This put the Seahawks down a run, but the side was retired before any more damage was done.

The defense of Cecil bailed them out of another jam in the seventh, leaving the door open for the Seahawks to tie the game. Lane Weismiller kicked off the inning with a walk and was quickly moved over to second thanks to a well placed bunt. O'Brien rewarded Cecil's patience, drilling a triple to right that scored Weismiller to tie the game. Delaware Tech managed to hold off the Seahawks to force extra innings.

Delaware Tech gave Cecil a taste of its own medicine in the eighth, utilizing the sac fly to score a run in the 8th. A three up, three down inning bottom frame from the Seahawks followed to end the contest.

Cecil drops to 0-3 on the season with the loss.
