Cardinals Fall in Home Opener

Cardinals Fall in Home Opener

The CCBC Catonsville Cardinals hosted their first home game last Friday, falling to Sussex County Community College by a score of 10-5.

The Cardinals built an early lead but could not maintain the advantage, falling to 1-7 on the season.

The Cardinals opened up a two-run lead at the bottom of the first. Sophomore outfielder Wyatt Moore (West Orange) would add two runs and sophomore shortstop Orlando Perez Jr (Winter Park) would sneak in a double as part of the team's five-run afternoon.

Entering the sixth inning, the score was 6 – 4 in favor of Sussex County. Catonsville began to claw back some momentum when Sussex unleashed four runs in the top of the seventh, taking a 10-4 lead. Catonsville kept the intensity up, keeping the game as close as they could.

Despite scoring another run in the bottom of the seventh, the Cardinals were unable to make up the deficit. Catonsville now looks to bounce back at home on March 5, as they will host Lakeland Community College for a double-header.
