Wolfpack Open Year with 86-78 Win over Potomac State

YOUNGWOOD, Pa. - Noah Raynor-Savage scored 21 points and Jakir Hampton scored 18 to lead five scorers in double figures, as the Westmoreland County Community College men's basketball team knocked off Potomac State 86-78 in the Wolfpack's season opener Friday night.

Westmoreland, who is playing this season as a club team, raced to an early 18-6 lead to start the game. Raynor-Savage did a lot of his damage in the first half, scoring 16, while Hampton notched 12 in the opening 20 minutes. The Wolfpack also had a boost off the bench from Jake Zasowski, who buried four treys to lead a late charge that sent the home team into halftime with a 48-39 lead.

Potomac State scored the opening 12 points of the second half to take the lead, which switched hands numerous times in the final 20 minutes. The Wolfpack regained the lead for good when Jason Pierre made a three with 7:55 left. Westmoreland used three-pointers down the stretch by Hampton, Mohamed Conde and Brandon Baird to extend their advantage and iced the game at the foul line. Conde went 4-for-4 from the line and Hampton hit a pair in the closing seconds to secure the victory.

In addition to leading the team in scoring with 21, Raynor-Savage also gave out four assists, as did Hampton to go along with his 18 points . Other top scorers included Conde, who notched 12 of his 15 markers in the second half, Zasowski with his dozen and Joel LoNigro, who fired in 11. Conde grabbed a team-best eight boards, while Baird hauled down seven and Raynor-Savage grabbed six and LoNigro made three steals in the triumph.

The Wolfpack return to the court Sunday when they travel to West Virginia to take on Potomac State. The tip-off for the game has been mvoed up to 1 pm.
