A walk-off single led Westmoreland County Community College past Garrett College 6-5 in game one of Friday's doubleheader. The game was tied at five with Westmoreland batting in the bottom of the seventh when Jake Piktel singled on a 0-2 count, scoring the winning run!!
The Wolfpack got on the board in the first inning. Dom Koch singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
Westmoreland totaled 13 hits. Koch, Gavin Cancio, Jack McBride, and Ronnie Howard each managed multiple hits for the Wolfpack. Koch went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Westmoreland in hits.
Connor Lee was the winning pitcher for Westmoreland. The right-hander went all seven innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and striking out five.
Nothing came easy for Westmoreland in game two, as they fell 12-2 to Garrett. Garrett got things moving in the first inning, when Tyler Husband threw a wild pitch allowing one run across the plate for Garrett College.
Westmoreland knotted the game up at one in the bottom of the first inning. Ronnie Howard drew a walk, scoring one run.
Howard, Jack McBride, Gavin Cancio, Logan Short, Andrew Ruddock, Alex Borges, and Jose Rosario each collected one hit to lead Westmoreland.
Husband took the loss for the Wolfpack. The pitcher allowed five hits and seven runs over four and a third innings, striking out four. Andy Person also threw in relief and went one and two-third innings surrendering five runs on five hits.
With the split the Wolfpack now move to 7-18 on the season. The will be traveling to Region 20 and WPCC rival Butler on Monday for a single game starting at 4pm.
