Cardinals Earn Big Conference Win

Cardinals Earn Big Conference Win

On March 7th, the CCBC Catonsville Cardinals headed back on the road to take on the CCBC Dundalk Lions, in what we anticipated this conference match to be a "game of intensity" in Sophomore outfielder Caleb Bailey's words.

The Cardinals stuck with their drive to carry on their winning momentum as they built up a quick four run lead at the end of the first inning. Thanks to Sophomore catcher Tony D'Angeli (Athlonton High School) who led the team with four hits, two RBI's and two runs to finish the day. A RBI from D'Angeli in the first, would allow freshman centerfielder Jalen Williams (Western Tech) to add one of his two total runs in the first inning. Half of the Cardinals batting possessions would end with a run under their belt to raise the scoreboard. On the contrary, the Lions were unable to simulate this perforce due to another excellent performance by the field. Freshman Pitcher Sean Driscoll (Audubon) earned himself a win, a ground out and two strikeouts thrown to make his presence felt in the first inning.

At the top of the second inning, D'Angeli would come back to hit a single, which would help send Williams back to home plate for the second time. On a wild pitch, Sophomore shortstop Moises Aristy (Arundel High) snuck a run in while avoiding a close tag out as he slid as low as he could. The scoring would pick right back up at the fitth inning, when freshman catcher Alex Valdez (Blair) would make his way from third to home plate for a run to add to his additional two RBI's in this game. The last sequence of scoring would come in the sixth inning, right before the game was cut short. D'Angeli would score the last run with the assistance of Sophomore second baseman Orlando Perez Jr (Winter Park) coming away with one last RBI.

The Cardinals cemented themselves another strong win, as the final score of this match would be nine to two. Now going on a three-game win streak and what looks to be a much-needed comeback after a rough few starts, the Cardinals will have to rematch the Lions back at home and defend their winning streak on March 9th.
