The second stop for the Erie baseball team this weekend was in Frederick, Maryland to take on the Frederick Community College Cougars.
The teams would split their double header with the Cougars taking game one 6-4 and the Kats following up with a 7-6 victory.
Frederick opened the scoring in the bottom of the fourth inning in game one with three singles and a passed ball to take a 4-0 lead. Erie tied the game up in the top of the sixth thanks to two homeruns. After both Grayson Giddings and Austin Dietz walked, Garrett Wilson stepped up to the plate and hit a three run shot. Three batters later, the game was tied with a solo shot from Ronan Glassford.
The lead did not last long as Frederick would go up by two in the bottom of the frame and hold on for the victory.
Ryan Lynch opened the game for the Kats, giving up 11 hits and six runs over five and two-thirds innings. He struck out three and walked two.
In the second game, it was the Kats who would jump out with a big lead. The Kats put up four runs in the top of the first inning on a grand slam by Nathan Kinder.
Frederick would tie the game in the bottom of the third and then take a two run lead in the bottom of the fourth. It was then Erie's turn to tie the game in the top of the sixth. Wilson would put Erie on top with a solo homerun in the eighth inning.
Adam Stanizzewski started the game for Erie, giving up six hits and six runs over six and two-thirds innings while striking out two and walking three. Aaron Knuutila came in for relief, tossing one and one-third innings. the reliever surrendered zero hits, stuck out one and walked two.
