BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Defending national champion Hostos Community College jumped out to a 23-9 lead after the first quarter and never looked back in coasting to a 91-37 victory over Anne Arundel Community College (MD) in the opening game of the 2019 NJCAA DIII Women's Basketball National Championship.
Hostos (26-5) used a 72-36 advantage on the boards and forced the Riverhawks into 25 turnovers in earning the opening round victory.
Skydajah Patterson scored a game-high 27 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Caimans, while Kayla Wilson added 19 points and 17 rebounds.
Karley Haensler led Anne Arundel (9-14) with 10 points.
Hostos, the #1 seed, will now face the winner of #4 Hibbing and #5 Western Tech at 5pm on Friday.
Anne Arundel will face the loser the Hibbing/Western Tech game at noon.
