Women's Soccer on the Road September 22nd through 25th

Hagerstown traveled to Columbia, MD on Thursday, September 22nd, for a match with the Howard Community College Dragons. Howard scored three goals in the first half to mount a 3-0 lead. In the second half, Hagerstown scored a goal by Mikaila Ek (#7), assisted by Diana James (#9) at the eighty-fourth minute, however, the dragons scored again to finalize the 4-1 win over the Hawks. The Hawks had 13 shots on goal in the second half but were unable to capitalize on putting the ball in the back of the net. Coach Clifton Williams stated "This was a tough loss with not having key players due to some injuries. I am still proud of the players who kept fighting until the end. The team was flexible with being moved into different positions to keep an offensive attack on the Dragons' goal."

On Saturday, September 24th, Hagerstown traveled to North Carolina to face Louisburg College (4-1-0). The first half of the game was dominated by the Hurricanes, scoring three unanswered goals in the first half. In the second half, the Hawks pressured the Hurricanes with ten shots on goal, but were unable to score, giving the win to the Hurricanes. "We were still haunted by injuries at Louisburg, but the team worked hard on keeping a solid defense and only allowed two goals in the second half of the game," commented Williams.

Completing the two game weekend swing, Hagerstown played Richard Bland College (3-6-1) in Petersburg, VA on Sunday, September 25th. Kayda Shives (#4) scored first for the Hawks in the thirty-fifth minute on an assist by Kadenn Martin (#34). Hagerstown held the lead at halftime, until the Statesmen scored their first goal from Angie Finnerty (#18), assisted by Tiffany Hargett (#1) in the early stages of the second half.  In the eighty-fourth minute, Shives scored her second goal, assisted by Mikaila Ek (#7) on a pass by Abby Sprecher (#19), giving the Hawks the 2-1 lead.  Kadenn Martin (#34) struck again for the Hawks in the eighty-six minute, assisted by Shives on a pass from Sprecher.  Statesman Kylie Jackson (#11) scored for Richard Bland on an assist by Lana Hatch (#7), but came up short as the Hawks won 3-2.

"This was a good week for us. If you take into account that we played Potomac State on Tuesday, traveled to Howard on Thursday and then south for two games, 2-2 for a four game week is good," commented Williams. "We dealt with injuries during the four games but managed to overcome some major obstacles along the way. The players elevated their game and continued to work hard for one another. I can't wait to get everyone healthy and be at full strength for the next few games."

Let's Go Hawks.
