Volleyball Starts Inaugural Season

The volleyball team kicked off its inaugural season on Wednesday at home against Cecil, losing a close match 1-3.

Volleyball marks the sixth sport to be added and more importantly, the first full female team to ever compete at Carroll. The community showed up in a big way for this special event, packing Coppermine Pantherplex bleachers to support the Lynx.

Carroll kept it close in all but one set, with the first and fourth sets being lost by only two points. The Lynx could have easily won in four or went to a fifth set had a few points swung the other way.

Karley Badorf led the Lynx on offense and defense, posting a team high in kills (10), service aces (4), and digs (23). Madeline Maggio held down the libero position all game and showed out, tallying 17 digs. Abigail Morley and Payton Zepp were setting up teammates all night, combining for 34 of the teams 38 assists.

Result aside, the Lynx played a fantastic game and were super competitive in their first ever match. Given what they showed on Wednesday, we expect an exciting and memorable season ahead of us.

Carroll will play in a scrimmage against McDaniel College before jumping back on the NJCAA schedule. Their next official match will be away against Chesapeake on Wednesday, September 6th at 6 PM.
