Seahawks Triumph Over Jayhawks

NORTH EAST, Md. - Cecil baseball collected a four-game sweep of the Jamestown Jayhawks, topping the visitors 6-5 Sunday afternoon.

Gio Malatesta's RBI-single in the fifth seperated the Seahawks from the Jayhawks. Kevin Gamber and Nate Ewing (S,1) slammed the door on the Jayhawks over the final two innings, combining to allow just one hit and one walk while striking out three.

The Seahawks are now 9-11 on the season.

Game Highlights

Four the fourth straight game, Jamestown scored in the first to take an early lead. Cecil did not have a response until the third, when the Seahawks ripped through the Jayhawks for five runs. A two-run blast by Garrett Worthington and two RBI doubles did most of the damage in the inning.

With Cecil up 5-3, Jamestown plated a run in each of the next two frames to tied the game at 5-5. Malatesta finally broke the tie with a single up the middle that scored Justin Cordero to give the Seahawks a 6-5 lead.

Kevin Gamber would replaced starter Jayden Meregildo (1-1) for the sixth and walked the first batter. A web gem catch from right fielder Evan James tangled the Jamestown runner into a double play, putting two outs on the board. A two-out single gave the Jayhawks another window, but Gamber would punchout the next batter looking to end the sixth.

Cecil also threatened to score with runners on first and second in the sixth, but Jamestown's defense held firm and got out of the inning unscathed. This led to the Seahawks calling on Nate Ewing to close out the game in the seventh. The sophomore proved to be the right choice as he retired three straight to purge Cecil of the Jayhawks.
