HCC 2, Southern Maryland 2

LA PLATA, Md. — Madison Knode and Savannah Holder each scored a goal for Hagerstown Community College as the Hawks opened their season with a tie against the College of Southern Maryland on Wednesday.

Nia McDannell and Emily Fluharty each had an assist and Chloe Hadley had 12 saves for HCC.

The game ended after two overtime periods, with the teams still knotted 2-2. Hawks coach Clifton Williams said all 110 minutes of the match were played in pouring rain.

“I was very pleased with how the players pushed through and how they maintained possession the majority of the game,” Williams said. “They worked very hard and it is very obvious that the work they have put in outside of game play is paying off. There is still room for improvement, but we have plenty of season left to work on what we need to.

“As the head coach of the first women’s soccer program at HCC, I am looking forward to building a strong and successful program.”
