Hawks Snatch Win Away from Cardinals

The College of Southern Maryland Hawks men's soccer team beat the CCBC Catonsville Cardinals 4-3 on October 10 in Baltimore, Maryland.

Freshman forward Eliass Elfasoukhi and sophomore forward Nomen Felix Mbia Sampson provided the scoring for the Hawks as they each netted two goals.

It was the Hawks' fourth win in a row, their longest winning streak of the season and longest winning streak since they also won four during the 2016 season.

Elfasoukhi put the Hawks up 1-0 in the 20th minute. He took a pass from freshman defender CJ Brady, worked around a Catonsville defender, and sent a shot from far out that sneaked just under the crossbar and over the fingertips of the leaping Catonsville goalie.

Fourteen minutes later, Mbia Sampson made the score 2-0. He one-timed a pass from Elfasoukhi, bouncing his shot from the left side of the penalty box past the Catonsville goalie and off the right post and in.

Catonsville scored their first goal minutes before the end of the first half, then added two more by the 70th minute to hold a 3-2 lead.

Mbia Sampson tied the game in the 87th minute on a penalty kick after freshman midfielder Bilal Driouich was taken down in the penalty box by the Catonsville goalie.

Elfasoukhi scored the game-winning goal on a free kick just outside the penalty box with two minutes left on the clock to give the Hawks their ninth win of the season.

The Hawks are now 9-4-2 overall and 5-2-1 in Region 20 Division II.
