Cougars Continue Their Winning Ways Downing CCBC Essex 8-2
On Friday, the FCC Cougars Baseball team continued their winning ways against regional opponents defeating the CCBC Essex Knights 8-2 in the semifinal game of the 2023 NJCAA Region 20 Division II Baseball Championship Tournament.
The Cougars started things off when Brody Lindsey doubled in the second inning to score one run. Dakota Smith got the start on the bump for FCC Cougars and went six innings, allowing two runs on four hits and five strikeouts.
Bryce Greene entered the game in the top of the seventh with the FCC ahead by two runs, one out, and the bases loaded with the Knights, Shais Roman, up to bat. Roman just hit a home run in his previous at-bat, but Greene got him to swing at the first pitch to hit into a ground ball double play to retire the side. Greene recorded his eighth save on the season to set the school record for most saves in a single season and is currently fourth most in the NJCAA DII.
Aidan Masters hit a single to left field in the bottom of the seventh to drive in Nick Keane and give the Cougars another run. FCC Cougars put up three more runs in the eighth inning. Brendan Kleinman hit a solo home run, Demetri Jamison doubled, and Nick Keane singled to center field to bring in Jamison and Jake Holler.
Keane led the Cougars offensively with two hits in three at-bats and three RBIs. Defensively, FCC only allowed six hits in the game.
The Cougars advance to play CCBC Catonsville Cardinals on Saturday at 10:00 AM. And the winner of that game will play in the championship game slated for Sunday at noon, with an awards presentation to follow.
