Cardinals Fall Below .500 with Loss to WVU Potomac State

In game two of the WVU Potomac State College doubleheader, the Cardinals would, unfortunately, fall once again 5 – 2 and find themselves under .500, with seven wins and eight losses for the current season.

Coming into this game, the Cardinals did manage to stay in this game throughout the final inning and make their batting presence well known with seven hits and zero errors. There was no doubt that the results of the first game were lingering on the minds of the team, this could explain why their batting and field performance overall improved yet ended up not being enough to manage the win in the end. Both teams would play shutout through a strong field performance for the first six innings. Sophomore pitcher, Felicity Voss (Catonsville) took the mound for the first time of the day and posted four strikeouts.

Entering the sixth inning, the Cardinals were trailing in a 0 – 2 game. With two outs on the board, freshman second baseman, Madelyn Golt (George Washington Carver) stepped up big as she hit a much-needed double in the right field. This allowed teammates Tori Bache (Northeast High) and Morhgan Gross (Howard High) to step on home plate and give the Cardinals their first runs. Golt would end the day with two RBIs, a hit, and a double. As the Cardinals approached the final inning on a much-needed positive note, they were tasked with posting one more shutout and repeating with another great batting performance. Unfortunately, WVU would sneak in three runs and the Cardinals would fall short of their comeback opportunity.

The Cardinals showed some improvements and now we look to see how they will answer back in their next doubleheader versus Harford Community College.
