Cardinals Fall in Seventh Inning Collapse

The CCBC Catonsville Cardinals baseball team was on their way to victory against Cayuga Community College until a seventh-inning collapse, falling 6-5.

Catonsville built up a 4-0 advantage in the first two innings and led 5-3 entering the seventh inning. A three-run home run by Cayuga gave the Spartans a lead they would never relinquish.

The tone was set in the bottom of the first as Catonsville took a 2-0 lead. After sophomore outfielder Angelo Ramirez (North Atlanta) reached first with a single and stole second, sophomore outfielder Jalen Williams (Western Tech) brought Ramirez home after reaching base on an error. Williams would reach home after freshman infielder Nick Stergiou (Broadneck) grounded out. Leading 2-0, the Cardinals extended their lead in the bottom of the second. Once again, Ramirez and Williams would score due to fielding errors by Cayuga.

The top of the fourth saw Cayuga finally respond with three runs, making it 4-3. Catonsville immediately responded as Williams singled Ramirez home to make it 5-3. The score would hold for the next two innings as neither team could score.

Cayuga right fielder Michael Norton homered in the top of the seventh, bringing home three runs to give Cayuga a 6-5 lead. Needing to respond after blowing the lead, the Cardinals were sat down in order by Cayuga in the bottom of the seventh, ending a rough loss.

Ramirez ended the contest with a double, triple, and stolen base. Williams added two RBIs, while sophomore designated hitter Pete Howell (Lake Howell) added a double.
