Region Announces December Players of the Month

Congratulations to the NJCAA Region 20 Players of the Month for excellence in December, 2023. The Region recognized six student-athletes from five member institutions. 

Men's Basketball Division I
Paul Mason, So., F, Harford
Mason averaged 16.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game in December. He also averaged three blocks and almost two steals per game. Mason had four double-digit scoring games including a 23-point breakout against Baltimore City, and 29 points against Delaware Tech.

Women's Basketball Division I
Ziahya Lomax, So., F, Allegany
Lomax averaged 12.5 points and nine rebounds per game in December for the Lady Trojans. She picked up her third double-double of the season against Montgomery on December 9, netting 17 points and 12 rebounds to go with three assists, two steals, and a 7-for-8 performance at the charity stripe.

Men's Basketball Division II
Justin Morrisey, So., G, Frederick
Morrisey started all six games for the Cougars in December, averaging 24.8 points per game behind a 54.7% field goal percentage and an astounding 97.3% effort from the free throw line (36-for-37). Morrisey also averaged eight rebounds, 5.7 assists, and three steals in December as Frederick went 5-1 in December, pulling off an impressive 4-0 run over a six day span early in the month. His best performance came on the road against Westmoreland County Community College, where he scored 31 points in 25 minutes, shooting 73% from the field.  He added 27 points against Northern Virginia Community Collee, shooting 64% from the field and sinking all six free throw attempts.

Women's Basketball Division II
Alana Powell, Fr., G, CCBC Essex
Powell averaged 17.3 points, 5.8 assists, and 4.5 rebounds per game in six starts in December.  She was named the national player of the week on December 6 as her two double-doubles in wins against nationally-ranked Palm Beach State and Union College put CCBC Essex back in the top five of the NJCAA DII rankings. Powell averaged 20 points and 10.5 assists in those two games. In the Knights' OT win against Union that week, she scored 14 of her 16 points in the fourth quarter and overtime. She closed the month scoring 19 points behind a 10-for-10 performance at the free throw line in the Knights' statement win over Union on December 17.

Men's Basketball Division III
Saveon Jackson, So., G, Prince George's
Jackson helped guide the Owls to a 6-1 record and the No. 4 spot in the NJCAA Division III rankings in December. He finished in double digits in all seven games during the month, averaging 22.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 3.3 steals per game. He earned his first double-double of the season with a 29-point, 11-rebound performance in a two-point victory over Garrett College.

Women's Basketball Division III
Jai'Den Anderson, Fr., G/F, Prince George's
Anderson averaged a double-double throughout December with 14.9 points and 10 rebounds while also dishing out 2.3 assists and three steals per game. She finished with a career-high 24 points against Butler County on December 10th. Prince George's finished the month with a 6-2 record and a No. 10 ranking in the NJCAA polls.
