Postseason Preview

ARNOLD, Md. (10/19/2022) – The postseason is here and several teams prepare for action this weekend hoping to advance their seasons to national tournament play. Division I Men's Soccer, Division II Men's and Women's Soccer, Division III Volleyball and Division III Men's and Women's Cross Country all see action on October 22nd.

In Division I Men's Soccer, Montgomery will host Harford on Saturday to crown a region champion. The Fighting Owls of Harford topped the Montgomery Raptors 1-0 on October 6 to earn the top seed. As the slated host of the Region Tournament this year, Montgomery will host as the second seed. The Fighting Owls have compiled a 13-4 record on the season, the Raptors sit at 13-3. The two met in last year's region championship game with Montgomery edging Harford 3-2. They would meet again in District competition with Harford claiming a 2-1 victory to advance to the national tournament. The 2022 District Tournament will be held October 29 to November 5 at the location of the highest seed.

The quarter-final round of the Division II Women's and Men's Soccer tournament kicks off this weekend with one game in the women's tournament and two games for the men. In women's action, Howard hosts Frederick at 12:00 pm on Saturday. During the regular season, Howard and Frederick fought to a 2 - 2 draw in double overtime. Howard earned the fourth seed in the tournament with a division record of 1-2-1. Frederick is seeded fifth with an 0-3-1 division record. The winner of the two meets top seeded CCBC Essex on October 26 which is hosted by CCBC Dundalk. #2 Potomac State and #3 Southern Maryland will precede that match at 3:00 pm. The winners of those two semi-final contests will meet in the championship on October 29th at 12:00 pm, also hosted by CCBC Dundalk.

The Division II Men's Soccer schedule includes two games on Saturday; #6 Carroll at #3 Potomac State (1:00 pm), and #5 Northern Virginia at #4 Howard (2:30 pm). In their late September meeting, Potomac State topped Carroll 6-3. In the other quarter-final game, Howard looks to take down Northern Virginia who they defeated 4-0 at the beginning of the regular season. Waiting to play the winners are #2 Frederick and #1 CCBC Essex. Semi-final games will be hosted by CCBC Dundalk at 3:00 pm and 5:30 pm. The Division II Men's Championship will be played at CCBC Dundalk on October 29th at 2:30 pm.

On the hardwood of Butler County Community College, Division III Volleyball will crown a champion on October 22nd as well. Top seed and host Butler will play Anne Arundel on Saturday at 11am. Immediately following, #2 Westmoreland and #3 Howard will faceoff in the second semi-final contest. Butler is undefeated in division play and topped Anne Arundel 3-0 in early September. Westmoreland handed Howard a 3-1 loss to earn the second seed in the tournament. The winners of the semi-final matches will meet at 4:00 pm to close the tournament.

The men and women of Division III cross country will hit the trails on Saturday at Westmoreland County Community College in the Region 20 Championship races. The men's race begins at 12pm and the women will follow at 1pm. Runners will be competing for team championships as well as All-Region honors.

The remaining fall sports will begin their tournaments next week, including Division I and III Women's Soccer, Division III Men's Soccer, Division I and II Volleyball, and Division I and II Cross Country. Updates to all tournaments will be posted following the respective tournaments.
